Bring Your Own Data 101

Last updated: April 1, 2026

Bring Your Own Data (BYOD) allows you to upload your own files into Horizons and use the platform’s search and analysis tools on your data.

This feature is designed to make Horizons more useful for your specific workflows whether you’re working with internal documents, research files, or case-related data. Once uploaded, your data can be searched, organized, and shared just like other datasets in the platform.

To Get Started

Navigate to the “Your Data” section in the platform.

Here, you’ll see 2 main tabs:

  • My Data – Datasets you’ve uploaded

  • Shared with Me – Datasets shared by others in your group

Creating a Dataset

To get started:

  1. Go to Your Data

  2. Click New Dataset

  3. Enter a name for your dataset

  4. Open the dataset to begin adding files

Each dataset acts as a container for your files.

Searching Your Data

Once uploaded, your files become searchable within Horizons.

You can:

  • Search across your dataset using the main search bar

  • Run targeted searches within a specific file

  • Use filters and operators just like any other dataset

This allows you to analyze your own data alongside Horizons data in one place.

Sharing Data

You can share datasets with others in your group:

  • Invite users by email

  • Assign permissions:

    • Viewer – Can search and view data

    • Editor – Can add files and edit dataset details
