Managing & Organizing Your Data

Working with Datasets and Files

Datasets are the foundation of how your data is organized in Horizons. Each dataset acts as a container for a group of related files, such as a project, investigation, or topic.

You can create multiple datasets depending on how you want to structure your work.

Working within a dataset

After your files are uploaded, you can interact with them directly in the platform. Files can be previewed in a way similar to search results, allowing you to quickly review content without downloading anything.

You can also rename files, remove them, or move them between datasets as your work evolves.

Searching and using your data

Your uploaded data is fully integrated into Horizons search. This means you can run searches across your files just like you would with any other dataset.

Datasets can also be added to Investigations, allowing you to save findings, organize your work, and revisit it later.

Data Dictionary

Each dataset includes a Data Dictionary page where you can describe what the dataset contains. Adding this context helps you—and others—understand the purpose and origin of the data over time.

Best practices

Keeping datasets focused and clearly named will make your data easier to manage and search. It’s often better to organize by project or topic rather than uploading everything into a single dataset.
