How can I learn more about PAI investigations and do this work myself?

PAI enables any individual with a computer and the open internet to become an investigator. The knowledge libraries in Horizons are designed as a starting point for investigators but a wide variety of other resources exist to help you improve your knowledge and competence in PAI analysis. Some resources include:

• The Global Investigative Journalism Network (GIJN) offers a library of resources on open source tools, data, and techniques specifically oriented towards investigative journalists.

• Bellingcat provides libraries of learning resources on conducting open source investigations and runs a Discord channel that brings together a community of online investigators, 17,000-strong at last count

• IntelTechniques by Michael Bazzell is the godfather of online investigations, providing a comprehensive library of online databases and resources that are regularly updated

• Major think tanks such as the RAND Corporation, the Center for Strategic and International Studies, the Atlantic Council, and the Royal United Service Institute publish regularly on the field of open source intelligence

• Any social media platform, but particularly Twitter, includes a large community of online open source investigators. Some of our favorites to get you started include @OSINTCurious; @LOACActual; and @BenDoBrown

• Every C4ADS report (www.c4ads.org) includes a methodology section to explain the tools and resources we used.
